What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul?

It is okay to pursue riches and fame, but remember that God is to always to be sought first. Love the Lord your God with all of your heart. Even if we attain great riches and fame; our heart attitude should be that if God says to give it all away, we would be willing to give it away. A word of caution, make sure that you know the voice of the Lord. God speaks clearly when he gives specific direction. The direction of our scripture today is to not loose your heavenly blessing and spend eternity in hell because worldly gain becomes your god.
