Psalms 23:1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
Devotion
I had the clearest thought as I was walking through my living room, “The Lord is my Shepard, I shall not want.” I knew that God was speaking to me. I had been having some financial difficulties and the grocery supply had dwindled to nothing. “I shall not want” I confessed out loud. That same morning, when I arrived at my place of employment a friend asked how I was doing, I replied with a smile, “I have no food or money but other than that I am fine.” He grabbed me by the arm and said lets go see Randy. I knew that Randy's place of employment helped needy people during Christmas but I did not know that they helped people who were in need of food any time during the year. I soon was leaving with two medium sized boxes overflowing with groceries.
I finished work early and stopped by a church where I would occasionally volunteer to help minister to needy people. Pastor Mark met me at the door. As I looked at his T-shirt, I smiled in amazement. In large letters were the words, “The Lord Is My Shepard.” I didn't tell Mark that I was in need and up until moments before had no food or money. For the next three hours I volunteered my time. As I was telling pastor Mark goodbye, he hugged me and then asked me the strangest question. “Hey, do you want any cucumbers?” “Sure” I replied. We ventured into a large walk-in refrigerator and he began to put cucumbers into a bag. He asked if I wanted some bagels and English muffin, “yes please.” As he knelt down to get them, I read the words on the back of his shirt, “I Shall Not Want,” I began to cry. When he turned and looked at me, I told him about how I had no food at home and that God had spoken the scripture to me that was on his shirt this morning. He looked at me with love in his eyes and said, “come with me.” He took me into a large kitchen area that had many cabinets which extended from the floor to the ceiling. As he opened the doors of two of them, he said we love you brother and are here for you, take as much food as you want.
God's love for his children is amazing.
