When the Counselor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father, he will testify about me.
Devotion: Streams Of Living Water
One Friday evening I was attending a meeting that I enjoyed going to where people would share about various things that were happening in their lives, some good and some not so good. A friend named Michelle was sitting in front of me. As the meeting was about to end I just felt as though I was supposed to tell her that she was not alone. She had not shared anything during the meeting so there was no reason to think that my thoughts were anything but from the Lord. When the meeting ended she turned and greeted me. I told her that I have something I feel I am supposed to say to you. I then told her, “You are not alone.” Suddenly with a shout of excitement she said “HOW DID YOU KNOW THAT?... I WAS JUST CRYING AND PRAYING TO THE LORD THIS MORNING, TELLING HIM THAT I FEEL SO ALONE.” God had caused the life giving water of the Holy Spirit to flow through me revealing to my friend that God had heard her prayer and she was not alone!
On another occasion in my prayer time one morning, I felt that I was supposed to call a friend on the phone and tell her that the father (God) loves her. So I did, even though I hardly knew her. She politely said thanks for sharing that with me and hung up the phone . The next day I received a phone call from her and she said, “Thank you for calling me yesterday, all day long I felt this love from God that I had never experienced before and his love is still saturating me today.” She explained to me that she had been feeling depressed but after I spoke the words God had given to me to her, something supernatural happened and she felt wonderful.
The Holy Spirit will flow through us and touch people with living water if we will step out in faith and take a chance. The reason God does this is to reveal himself to people and to let them know he cares about them.
I do remember once during my prayer time, telling God that I wanted to know his voice. He has answered my prayer; and if you will ask him, he will give you ears to hear his voice also. Then when you hear and speak as God directs you to do so, streams of living water will flow by the power of the Holy Spirit and people will know that God is real and Jesus is alive.
